a birthday Giftart for my younger sister... something not too flashy but elvish and elegant to go with her room... as usual I had been promising to finish this for about three of her birthdays with the progress being as follows

15th: head and shoulders, some hair, and a bunch of lines to find the rest of the picture.

16th: filled out the body and endlessly fiddled with the anatomy and dress which I still don't think I got right and gave her some sort of an environment at this point consisting of the mountains and forest... I think the wall was what stopped me here

17th: fixed her hands to look human and finished the background. added the pillars and ledge with a bit more of an idea of what I was doing. colored the blue parts and sky which was fun cause I got to use pastels although you can't really tell cause of the scanner...


so glad I waited so long...

Well it WAS meant for Halloween but the internet fritzed out and did not come back on til two days after the wretched day so this feels a bit out of place... just the leavings from spending practically the whole month working at a haunted house painting faces... I guess you could say it's a sort of halloweentown me... and perhaps he has something to do with boogie since he does have suits on his sleeve thing... I like how he looks like he's about to say "well what have we here?"

anyway sketched in mech pencil then colored with cheap colored pencils... oh and a bit of pen on his fingers

The developmental sketch that led to the total redesign of Zane from some scruffy street urchin to something with a bit more attitude.

What really prompted this was an attempt to render his hair in a sort of naruto style where it was just the general shapes in a solid color without any strands showing except at the edges... I tried it out with his original haircut but it wasn't working so great... so I spiked things up a bit while keeping the main aspects and got this... something much more dynamic and bad ass.

I love grapes...

a portrait of Zane in his new design since the, old one was rather too complicated... I don't really know why I bothered to draw him on such a large scale but since I am going to be doing a comic with his likeness eventually I needed to firm up his facial features more than just an aged sketch so I conducted this study... but I will give you the sketch that changed it... much more coherent than the original... and bad ass

I think somethings off here just can't figure it out... I was never too good at large scale work...

I didn't really want it to look too finished as that would probably make it look as forced as the poem... but I just couldn't leave the face alone... meh

yes that is right congratulate me for I have just finished entirely my highschool acedemic work which as far as I can tell means I HAVE GRADUATED!!! Yeah, I'm wearing my spanky pants! can you tell? that means this is a real special occasion cause I only save those for extra special occasions... *hem* don't worry they're just underwear, but besides that I also needed an excuse to restart the blog and this seems like as good as any since I am now a man!! now I'll go forth and conquer with the power of youth! NVRM that's still not right... pardon I've watched a bit too much of naruto for my own good....

no seriously I have so much time now I'm not too sure what to do with it... and there seems like theres always too much to get done in it... I never realized how stressful it would be not having to do any scholarly activity there's more time for what others need you to do than what you kinda want to do... sigh... still I am quite exuberant and I doubt that it will be dampened in a good while... I'm FREEE!!! I've always wanted to say that...

New Lives

well as much as I would love to blame my indefinite as of late silence on severe digital trauma(i.e. broken mashed fingers) I must be honest and say that lately I have been very boring and lazy and not very prone to be very internet social... but there are some beginings (and ending depending on how you look on it) that I must report upon so I have hauled up the old compose page just for such...

first is that my brother has been married now for about a week... to a lovely russian girl by the name of michelle... may they find greater love and happiness as they walk their new road together... here is some pictorial evidence of the fact..I have no idea why seeing my brother in a suit is so hilarious... :D Congrats guys!

Second: Melody has had her baby... may your life be full of joy and light as you care for another :D congrats love and sorry I haven't been in touch for a while... I'm waiting for some pictures, eh?;)


and thirdly... two things I learned from jetskiing for 6 hours on monday

One: unless you want to get thrown off trying to stay on, lean into your turns...

and Two: unless you want to turn into a lobster put on a pound and a half of sunscreen!

My feet are still swelling from going from white to beet two days afterward...

district 9 is an awesome movie very complex with a great focus on the main character's character above all else...(I was rather impressed by his freindly exterior but harder underlying personality, slightly creepy too)special effects of course were very well done especially for the way it was shot... wish they could of done something a bit better with the ending though...kind of inconclusive... the whole thing raises interesting questions not really about racism but about how everything changes when something alien is introduced... especially something that is a burden and even potentially dangerous... it gives a whole new aspect to it as a good movie should...  

It's the dog days of august....

And I haven't even gotten in a pool this year... that has to be a bad sign...

it's about time! been sitting on this for almost a month now. It's just the first page of my fourth peice in the XN... I don't really like the second so I'm not gonna post it

This was super rushed I only had like a week to finish it all because of the wacom contest... and yet I still obsessed over the colors...

you all know I do need money for the FDTP and since it worked so well LAST time... I entered another DA contest with a large some of money for a prize... along with a WACOM 4 tablet... at least that was the first one... yes I have no idea why I did it but I didn't win this one either (of course) not even semi finalist but I do like the entry immensely... some of my finest romantic work imo...

The Idea was to create a poster for the film "paper heart" which answered the question: what does love mean to me...

oh and umm yes the second contest I entered was one celebrating the sites ninth birthday... as I write this, the winners have not been decided so I'm not saying anything about that yet... But I will say that it was a challenge because we were given a template of random overlapping lines and shapes which was to be colored in with a paint bucket tool... in an infinite number of combinations... I played around with it filling stuff in with black at random till I came up with their mascot Fella...[link] and the little speach beneath it...but I think it might be interesting to note that I did find a crouching ninja as well, but that was not to be... anyway, wish me luck!

Happy Birthday DA!!!

As much as I may try to hide it I am a deviant... despite how begrudgingly I admit that I am a member of that site I cannot deny that I have gained a great deal from it's vast and sometimes embarrassing bulk... I've learned practically everything I know about digital art from the tutorials there and much of the inspiration and influence of my style has come from it too... I don't think I would be the artist I am today with out it... and so what better way to spend her 9th birthday than by showing my love and loyalty with an adapted portrait of their illustrious mascot FELLA?!!

sorry for the lack of updates... I seem to have gotten lost on the path of life...

well, it seems like I've finally gone out and found myself another anime to watch... Naruto, BELIEVE IT!!!

although it was a little difficult to get into at first I have to say that I'm really seeing why it's so popular... it's totally hilarious and awesome and thoroughly enthralling... what I really like about it is that it's so focused on character... you can really see the way that each character grows and progresses throughout, it's not just about the action although that's incredibly cool, but it's about the problems and challenges that each person faces and how they overcome them...you are there with them sharing their experiences and emotions, it gets you involved...and the comedy is just so foolish it's priceless... like seriously I laughed myself to tears this one episode,but I think that it's mostly based on the relationships between different characters and how they interact and react, plus the characters themselves are pretty humorous too...

the only problem that I think I have with it is the pacing... it takes forever to finish a story line... like seriously a single fight could take three whole episodes... that's an hour! I can quite literally watch it and work on something in the next window, because it's usually a monologue or flashback or just changing viewpoints... but I guess that's what makes it so easy to watch and so addicting it always keeps you guessing... like seriously there will be this huge important long sequence and poof! jutsu smoke and then end of the episode and you're just like... WHA...

sigh looks like I've also found another game to sap my time with... this one an nifty little rpg, one which I discovered while I was in mexico at the fresh age of 12... and I just found out that it's one of the earliest ones made by square enix(or squaresoft back then) no wonder I was so drawn to it. I Wonder how long it will last this time...

I think I'm coming down with an aircon cold... but I will try to post my recent artistic capers tomorrow at least...

The Glitch playlist system tutorial

It has come to my attention that the playlist system on The Glitch is sorely lacking in the area of explanation... I've managed to figure it out... after much deliberation and frustration, so as to save you all the trouble I will post this short and hopefully simple tutorial on it...


It's actually quite simple... once you find the song you want click the + symbol in the corner up there(you may notice that "add 2 mystation" will flash next to "rate this song") then click on "my stations" and in the pop up window, type in the name of your new station in the type box under the middle panel then click "new" to create your new station. Select that and click on your song in the left panel and click "add to playlist"; from there it's pretty self explanatory... your new station will show up on the station list with the defaults to be used for whatever you wish!

this is an illustration-fanart for my girlfriends fan fic "Love in Pain" I know you're used to seeing her in her traditional costume but... since the story is in a modern highschool setting(don't look at ME) I was requested to redo the costumes though still paying homage to the originals... after all would you go to school in something like that?

I don't think the pants work too well with the rest of the outfit now that I look at it... maybe leggings would have been a better choice...

my third piece in the XN! finally I can post it...

In sports I don't really think that any one position is more important than the other all are just as needed...after all, where would a striker be without his midfield? (myself, I'm more of a support player) I really wanted to show that everyone on the team is a winner regardless of whether or not they shot the last goal

I could of done a different sport since soccer wasn't exactly specified, I even seriously considered american foot ball, but I chose this one because its international, team intense, and also one of my favorites to play... not to mention it's not every day that you get to draw a bicycle kick... (even if it is slightly incorrect) the action shots were rather a challenge to keep coherent as well...

the trophy is the final one they went with... not exactly my favorite but it's clearer... although it's a trophy, isn't it all supposed to be symbolic? or at least impressionistic

I rather liked working in greyscale... don't have to worry about color and you can focus more on shade and light... although it does look a little boring... sigh

finally this series is up... it's taken me through many different stages of my art and I've learned alot through it, light and shade shape and line... but I think this one is my favorite... of course I am an air sign so I ended with it so it would be the best... I'm really happy with the way it came out and the ease that it was accomplished with.

there were certain things that I wanted to keep consistent throughout this series... one was the size and portion of the faces, another including the hands of each element in the picture so as to give it a certain interest, another was their eyes, I used the same basic technique on them throughout, and their facepaint... the guys on their cheeks and the girls on their eyes... oh and the borders with their little graphics...I did these so as to make them all similar and connected despite the progression of my skills of my skills... so that they would at least look related... still I might redo this eventually... especially the fire one i cringe when I see it still
